music makes me want to DANCE - solo flute
Instrumentation:
solo flute
or
solo violin
Duration:
5 min 30 sec
Year:
2009
Program Notes:
music makes me want to DANCE was written in 2009 for my dear friend, Kylie Collins, and revised in 2021. It weaves flute and stomping feet together into a celebration of rhythm and dance. A raucous dance with off-kilter rhythms opens the piece and has traces of Bartok as its inspiration. The middle section features a quasi-tango melody that duets with increasingly more complicated feet work, before returning to the opening material and a dizzying dance to the end.
