babblings of the moon - soprano, piano

babblings of the moon - soprano, piano
Instrumentation:
soprano (range B3-B5), piano
Duration:
9 min 30 sec
Year:
2013
Program Notes:
This work is centered around four texts from Carl Sandburg’s Chicago which all thematically relate to the moon and night. Soprano and piano are treated as equal collaborators - supporting each other throughout the piece. Linking all four movements are fragments of the harmonic series used as pianistic flourishes - a homage to the natural elements of sound.
I am greatly indebted to soprano Lily Kass, and pianist Vanessa Williams for their numerous comments and suggestions as the piece came into being.
